So I've been following the Kick-ass comics as you know and as a result I've been following the word on the Kick-ass movie and the buzz so far is that it is "teenage tarantino" TARANTINO! that is very high praise. I can see a bit of a Kill Bill Kick-ass vibe in this pic. I'd love to see Kick-ass versus the Bride vs. The Yakuza!!! j/k

Dave Lizewsky does kinda seem like it's a feasible Tarantino character.

Very catchy selling but it's hard to really get a good idea of a Millar property because he is so prone to extreme hyperbole. You can't judge Millar till you've read or seen the completed work all the way through. I like the casting thus far as reported by my favorite film news site. slashfilm.com I especially like the inclusion of Mc Lovin

one of my fav. actors of this current young hollywood set. I like Nic Cage and he has a great eye for good scripts but i don't see how he'll convincingly play the giant of a man/sniper in the comic book. We'll see what he can deliver. the girls have been cast to utter perfection and they look like they stepped of the page doey eyes and all!!!

I loved the wanted comic and i hated the wanted movie. I like the Kick-ass comic thus far even if it is a little meandering. The movie may play better with music and actually movement to the action and hardcore gore it is very promising. So that's how Millar comic2movie adaptation is going thus far. Tell me how you like this segment i may make it a recurring segment we will see.

BACK IN BLACK

Im back, for the time being gonna try to blog more often and get around to y summer movie reviews. starting with this summer's speed racer....

STAR TREK!!!! Has completely totally and utterly rocked my sum

mer and life.

One of the greatest movies ever on my favorite's list. It had action, drama, suspense, comedy, great sci-fi, time travel, two spocks, and heart. It fires on al cylinders. I've given more money to this film than any film ever.

I've seen it in theaters 11 times and purchased tickets for it at least 20 times and then snuck into other stuff.

the movie just deserves my money for being so perfect. Chris Pine is a star i'd love to see him in an Indiana Jones flick he has so much charisma and talent.

The cast is phenomenal all around. Sulu, Chekov, and McCoy don't get enough story but hope fully next movie they'll focus on the bones, jim, spock trinity.

I especially loved Bana as Nero between his role in this and Funny People. He's the breakout actor this summer being the master of heavies and now soon releasing the time traveler's wife which i'm hyped for this is the summer of Bana. I'd love to see a viral of Nero saying "Spock!!! Panties!!!" I'm not the only one this summer who has gushed over this film, and I'm sure I won't be the last.

Spotify iPhone App preview

It's nearly upon us. Quite possibly one of the most anticipated music apps, and from what I've seen, and heard, in my view one of the best. Set to be available for premium subscribers via the App Store.

As Spotify continues to grow, now at 2.15M UK unique users alone, the Spotify application will allow users to listen to individual songs, full albums, or even create playlists, which users can store songs to listen to offline.

Problems

     I've been trying to put the video (probably over an hour of HD video.  Those are big files.) from the basketball games I've been shooting the past couple days on my computer.  I'm log-ging and transfer-ing with Final Cut Express, and it imports about 5 out of 30-40 files, then freezes.  It did that about 6 times.  That is one of the most frustrating things ever.  I have looked everywhere on Apple's support forums, and have had no luck.  If anyone has any thoughts on this, please leave me a comment.  If not, I guess I'm gonna have to figure something out.

Reflections on Harry Potter

     Two days ago I saw the new Harry Potter movie.  It was good (that's one thing about me: as long as a movie is entertaining, I usually like it.  I rarely call a movie bad, unless it's totally uninteresting or just flat out stupid.  I also have a hard time picking favorites.), but what really stood out were a few scenes that were shot/edited wonderfully.

     The scene in which the characters are having their little chase/fight scene through the field at the Weasley's house blew me away.  The cinematography in that scene was amazing. I especially liked how they used both the rushed, shaky, close up shots like the ones you see in films like "The Bourn Identity", and the farther out, steady shots.  The combination of these two styles gave the scene the excitement factor from the close up shots, but also let you know what was going on.  I loved it.  Another thing that made that scene so cool was the lack of background.  You saw the character, the grass/wheat/whatever that was, and nothing else but blackness.  That gave it a cool effect.  And also, looking back, it seems like they partially desaturated the film.  I've never really thought about using partial desaturation as an effect, but the way they used it really worked.  

SPOILER ALERT!

     Another part I liked was after Dumbledore was killed, and everyone morned, and there was the dramatic orchestra music, then it went to a silent, black screen.  It stayed black for what seemed like the perfect amount of time, then opened, still silent, on the dining hall, with sunlight shining in.  that short sequence is what I consider amazing editing.  I don't think there was a better way they could have dealt with this main character's death. 

     I'm going to try to keep this kind of thing in mind for when I'm making my own stuff, and try to learn from all of the movies I see.

Long Movies

I watched "'Salem's Lot" last night, the (apparently) made for tv movie based on the novel by Steven King. A few notes:
1. It wasn't an awful movie, but
2. It was 4 hours long (including commercials, but still.)
3. I should not have started watching a 4 hour movie at midnight.
4. If I ever want to make a 4 hour movie, I want someone to slap me upside the head and make sure I know what I'm doing

Harry Potter Casts 'Twitter Spells' on your followers

This is a brilliant little app for all those Harry Potter fans out there, which just can't get enough of the box office smash 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' released Worldwide last week. 'Hogwarts Wizarding Class' (Found here: www.harrypottertweet.com) allows Twitterers out there to cast spells on their unsuspecting follows, giving them the option to send in a flock of birds (See below), shroud their page in darkness, or send them a love potion.

I think this is a really nice idea, and is very in the spirit of the movies. Developed by Warner Brothers the app is certainly one of the best uses of Twitter I have seen from a brand and hope fully raises the bar to a new level.

My only reservation is on the subject of how comfortable the Twitterverse is in divulging there login details to every new app that appears, but I guess we will see as more and more of them appear.
